The frequency of pregnancy and its effect

Women who are pregnant with a very short interval have a high risk to face problems such as premature birth, the baby is too small and the baby died during the birth process. Dr. Gordion Smith of Cambridge University, London, says that the pregnancy interval is too short will cause the mother has a very short time to restore the uterus.

According to Dr, Adilah Ahmad, a Specialist of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital Pusrawi, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur said that, the mother should plan the next pregnancy after uterine health status has complete return. Studies shows that pregnancy within six months after birth process has double the risk of premature babies is born within 24 to 32 weeks gestation. It is also one of the factors contributing to infant died at birth.
Pregnancy planning is necessary because:
  • Psychological Effects - Not ready to become pregnant is one factor that contributes to feelings of panic, fear and blame themselves. Many mothers who took the decision to drop the child because of this factor.
  • Anemia (anemia) - The birth resulted in the loss of blood. Birth with normal and no problems can result in blood loss of at least 200 to 400 ml. This does not include the blood loss after the birth process. Confinement time is a good time to restore the blood hemoglobin levels to normal. The customary period of confinement was for 44 days to 100 days.
  • Rahim fell - the medical term for this condition is uterine prolapse. It also interfere with bladder, bowel and vagina. Prolapse is often associated with the number of births. The greater number of births, the higher the risk of this situation. It will be felt when the age increases.
  • Maternal mortality - are associated with mothers who gave birth more than five children. Most of them are caused by too much blood loss during delivery.
What is the good interval of pregnancy ?
  • For maternal and child health, the World Health Organization (WHO) encourages the distance between the two years to five years. Pregnancy is under 2 years and more than 5 years had a risk of maternal and child health.
  • It should be tailored to the needs of the spouses to the desired number of children. For example, if they need two children, and maternal age and is still young, they should follow the guidelines above, but if the woman was 35 years old, and wanted as many as three children, pregnancy interval may be reduced and that the mother should be more careful to take care of herself.
  • For women who undergo surgery ceasarean, spacing at least two years must be adopted. Section scar in the uterine wall is no longer as strong as previously to prevent uterine contractions of childbirth and fear will stretch or break as to endanger the life of the mother and the child was conceived.
